Fokovisme

Ramos Sama & Spitler both have ties to different regions of Africa and were both raised with a love for hip-hop and many other art and cultural forms. Ramos is a founding member of the collective Osei Bantu. He is a curator, event organizer and choreographer, with a background in afro, house, hip-hop and contemporary. Spitler is a scenographer, rapper, visual artist and writer with a background in music, poetry, rap and spoken word.

With FOKOVISME Ramos Sama & Spitler are taking an innovative course, engaging with various art disciplines such as hybrid forms of visual art, spoken word, theater and graphic design. Their sources of inspiration go from, art history, graffiti, calligraphy, hieroglyphics, visual art, 3D, 2D, rap music, roots, actuality, occult, afrofuturism, street art, hip hop, breakdance, different cultures to any artist/art form in which Ramos & Spitler, as Fokovists, are currently interested and immersed in.

FOKOVISME as a collective and philosophy emphasizes craftsmanship and direct action. Their creation starts from the visual and abstract language of Fokovisme. FOKOVISME is a way of making and approaching art regardless of popular movements and regardless of imposed rules of academies and the mainstream art world surrounding it. Fokovist working methods are often experimental and a mix of spontaneity and research. By the art of trial and error they search for a desired end result.
